How are we different?
We take a proactive approach to healthcare by addressing the underlying cause of disease and making individual recommendations to prevent disease development given your family history or known genetic variants.
Many providers will start treating acid reflux or GERD with medications. While this helps with the symptoms, it doesn’t address the underlying problem. Acid reflux is typically caused by decreased muscular tone of the lower esophageal sphincter. Most medications prescribed for this work by decreasing stomach acid production. The cause of the acid reflux was never addressed, lower esophageal sphincter tone is still decreased and now your stomach acid production is reduced. I will work with you to correct the cause of the decreased lower esophageal sphincter tone first, before prescribing medication. In some cases, the benefits of medication outweigh the risks and this is something we can decide on together.

Dr. Alpert is a licensed and board certified family medicine doctor. He has completed additional training in Integrative Medicine through the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine. Prior to starting Boca Direct MD, Dr. Alpert provided primary care for thousands of patients through a large hospital-based health system.
